Hi everyone!!!

Hope you are all having a relaxing and peaceful :) summer so far. This page is just a quick overview of what we are up to but please check back in throughout the summer and we will keep you updated on our progress!!! So far, we are hard at work in the office contacting sites for service opportunities and planning the best week we possibly can for you all!

We are so excited to be the second year to coordinate the Human Rights issue area and are working to make it as interesting and interactive as we possibly can! Just to give you a peak, our focus is on immigrant and refugee issues, healthcare and prison reform. If you have thoughts feel free to leave a comment, we will love to hear from you!

Keep checking in for news!

Hi everyone!!!

We hope that you are having a great summer, and we thought we would post a little update about the Hunger Issue Area for FYSOP 19. So far we are still in the planning stage, but we have already booked a few sites that we are really excited about!

Just to give you a taste (pun intended) of the fun in store for you in August, some of the places we are going include the Greater Boston Food Bank, the Long Island Farm and the West End Boys and Girls Club.

Keep checking back for more info on FYSOP Hunger, and we hope to see you soon!!!

Much hunger love,

Zhandra Ferreira and Hannah Cross

Welcome to the FYSOP Blog!

The First Year Student Outreach Project (FYSOP) offers incoming Boston University students a unique opportunity to settle into their new community by performing a week of service before classes begin.

FYSOP volunteers participate in orientation, training, and three days of direct service associated with one of nine Issue Areas: Children, Disabilities, Elders, Environment, Gender Focus, HIV/AIDS Awareness, Homelessness and Housing, Human Rights, and Hunger. Education and awareness about the various problems facing our community is one of the most important aspects of FYSOP.

Participants are able to make new and long-lasting friendships through their interactions with student staff leaders and over 550 other first-year students who are dedicated to service. The hours of service FYSOP volunteers contribute make an immediate and significant impact on the community, and also give volunteers unique opportunities to create friendships through service. In previous years, FYSOP volunteers have completed over 16,000 hours of service in the Greater Boston Area.
